Marking 100 years since Paul Renner’s groundbreaking creation, Futura, TypeTogether and Bauer Types have united to craft a new, more accurate, and globally inclusive Futura family. Embracing TypeTogether’s hallmark collaborative design philosophy, we assembled a worldwide team of designers, consultants, and technicians to work together in creating the most ambitious Futura to date, fully leveraging modern technologies.
Spanning 23 writing systems, Futura®100 will support languages for over 90% of the world’s population. Futura has been to the moon but not to India, or in Laos, Thailand, Cambodia, Vietnam, Burma, Bangladesh, Pakistan, Armenia, Greece, Georgia, China… and many other countries. Fonts, situated at the crossroads of culture, communication, and functionality, transcend mere aesthetics. Their significance extends far beyond visual appeal, serving as indispensable tools that enable billions of people to communicate effectively. This project pushes the boundaries how Futura’s® original geometric aesthetic and design intent can be thoughtfully adapted across different writing systems with cultural sensitivity.
Futura® is one of the earliest geometric sans-serif typefaces, introducing a new approach to typeface design based on clear, simple shapes, making text highly legible, without any unnecessary ornamentation. In a democratic society, defined by diversity, equality, and accessibility, Futura’s® uncluttered design stands as a vibrant symbol of inclusivity. Its forward-looking spirit invites all voices to be heard without overshadowing the message itself.
