Speaker Guocheng Xin

Guocheng Xin is a typeface designer and PhD researcher at the University of Reading, specialising in multi-script typography. Originally from China, his professional background in branding and typography across both China and the United States deepened his interest in cross-cultural type design.Although his current research focuses on Chinese typography, he maintains an active interest in Arabic type design as a personal pursuit. Shin is particularly interested in how tools and printing technologies historically influenced letterforms, and how forgotten styles can be revived using contemporary digital methods.This curiosity led him to explore mid-20th century Egyptian film posters during his studies in Arabic type design.
