Emerging Variables in Typography for Augmented Reality

In this presentation, Niteesh Yadav will discuss the new variables and challenges emerging in augmented reality (AR). These range from past challenges like distance viewing to consuming information in a fast-paced environment. This presentation will offer a detailed overview of typography classification that Yadav created and presented during the TypeTech Meetup Munich in 2020 and improvements to the project over the past year.

Speaker

Niteesh Yadav

Niteesh Yadav is a type and digital product designer researching typography and standards of future interfaces for augmented reality (AR) headsets. Yadav’s interest in typography and research led him to pursue a master’s in typeface design from the University of Reading, UK. It was there that Yadav started his research on typefaces for AR headsets and designed a type family “ARone,” including Devanagari typefaces for an optimized reading experience across platforms and headsets. Yadav continues to research different headsets and the challenges beyond the design of typefaces. He is currently exploring ways to implement text with capabilities equivalent to modern tools used for designing UI.
