Creating an Odia Font

The Odia language is spoken within the region of Eastern India, Odisha. It is associated with a writing system also called Odia. Although Odia is used by 35 million speakers/writers, the development of its fonts has been rather limited. For instance, many Odia fonts do not support Unicode nor stable OpenType features.

Amélie Bonet’s presentation attempts to explain, show, and demonstrate ways of creating an Odia font with the help of the font editor Glyphs. Design aspects of the Odia script will only be considered if those are directly linked to the production workflow. The goal is to provide production support to Glyphs users eager to develop their Odia designs into working fonts.
