Speaker Pascale Schmid
Pascale Schmid is a Swiss-Australian type designer, consultant, researcher, educator, and author with a background in commercial aviation. A PhD candidate at Griffith University’s Queensland College of Art and Design (QCAD), Pascale recently submitted her thesis, which focuses on user-centred typography in flight safety. The outcome of Pascale’s PhD study is a Variable Font for use in Electronic Flight Bags (applications containing manuals, checklists, and aeronautical charts). While promoting maximum legibility, the typeface allows for advanced customisation by the user, recognising that each individual’s legibility needs are different. Additionally, Pascale has experience in teaching typographic subjects and currently works as a sessional academic at the Queensland University of Technology (QUT), where she teaches theories and methods of visual communication.
