Speaker Oriol Miró Genovart
Oriol Miró Genovart, a freelance calligrapher from Barcelona, has worked at his calligraphy and typography studio since 1994. A graphic designer and chemical engineer, Miró has collaborated with advertising agencies, design studios, museums, media, networks, and publishers. His body of work features logos, headlines, long-form text compositions, diplomas, murals, wall calligraphy, movie titles, books, and more.
Miró has taught calligraphy and typography in Barcelona and worldwide and, since 1995, has been a teacher at Elisava School. Since 2015, he has been chief coordinator and professor of the calligraphy department at Visions School in Barcelona, including three levels of calligraphy. Twice a year, Miró directs his own calligraphy retreats and intensive courses near Barcelona.
As a graphic design student at Elisava, Miró fell in love with calligraphy and has since dedicated his life to it. His vision of the letter is always about structure and spacing; his commitment is structural, never decorative. Miró’s passions are letters, counterforms, papers, brushes, and all kinds of pens. His position is passionate, and he cannot conceive of living a single day without writing by hand.
