Speaker Niaz Mirmobini
Niaz Mirmobini is a design researcher holding an MA in Visual Communication Design (Islamic Azad University, 2018) and an MA in Reading Type & Typography (PXL-MAD School of Arts, 2023), supported by the Mastermind Scholarship. She completed an internship at READSEARCH in 2022 and served as a research assistant under Prof. Bessemans (2023–24). Her contributions focused on legibility research and multi-script typography to projects, including the award-winning Expressive Typeface for Arabic Script. Her Master’s project, When Ligatures Touch Literature, was recognized for its innovative approach, laid the foundation for her doctoral research. She is now a PhD candidate at READSEARCH—Hasselt University and PXL-MAD School of Arts, investigating Arabic ligatures through the lens of disfluency theory and their impact on reading comprehension and speed. Aiming to define optimal difficulty levels across typographic genres, bridging scientific research with typographic innovation to enhance text accessibility and engagement across scripts and cultures.
