Speaker Muthu Nedumaran
Muthu Nedumaran began designing typefaces and creating input methods for complex writing systems in the early 80s. He started by developing bitmapped fonts for character terminals and printers. For text input, he wrote keyboard software in assembly language for these terminals. Muthu’s type design for Indian and Indo-Chinese scripts are now bundled into Apple’s operating systems, MS Windows and some Android devices. Muthu’s most recent creation is Hibizcus, a suite of free and open source font proofing and debugging tools for South Asian and South East Asian languages. Launched in 2021, Hibizcus is used by leading type foundries and experienced font engineers who work on complex text shaping.
