Speaker María Ramos
María Ramos (Santa Comba, 1982) is a type and graphic designer based in Santiago de Compostela (Galicia, Spain). She holds an MA in Typeface Design from the University of Reading and is a co-founder of the Galician-Swedish type foundry NM type. As a type designer, she has created numerous typefaces, ranging from custom fonts for clients like Jägermeister or the Galician Government to experimental type like the dance-inspired variable font Movement or the recently released concrete-engraved typeface Desfeita. Her work has gained international recognition at design exhibitions and has been awarded at prestigious competitions, including ADC, TDC, European Design Awards, Print Magazine, and the Iberoamerican Design Biennale. She is involved in various collective initiatives, such as Alphabettes, the Galician Design Archive AR\DE, and the informal typographic meetings Cañas & Tipos. As a naturally curious person, she is always eager to explore and learn about topics that pique her interest. Her favourite subjects include typewriter type, Galician design heritage, and font licensing.
