Speaker Daria Babaskina

My name is Daria Babaskina, I am a 21-year-old artist and designer born and raised in the Republic of Sakha, Russia—the coldest inhabited place on Earth. Currently I am a full-time design student at TU Dublin, Ireland. Born into a mixed Indigenous family, I grew up surrounded by Sakha culture but often felt disconnected from my heritage due to how strong the influence of colonialism is in Russia. I hesitated reflecting upon that experience in my work until very recently. This project helped me discover a new perspective on my lived experience, and learn new things about myself and my family.
