TypoFix Workshop

Participants will gain practical insight into how typographic conventions differ across languages and learn how to confidently handle different types of typesetting themselves – from single-language texts to complex multilingual publications. Typofix is a tool for detecting and correcting typographic errors in texts in up to 24 languages. It helps unify typographic rules throughout the entire publishing process – from editing and typesetting to final publication – and automates the correction of small but important details such as quotation marks, spacing, punctuation, and language-specific conventions. The workshop introduces Typofix as a practical tool for everyday work with text and multilingual typesetting. During the workshop, we will:

  • introduce the new Typofix application for users
  • learn the basic use of the application and its integration into typographic workflows
  • work with real texts brought by participants
  • introduce the typographic rules used in European and world languages, with particular attention to English, Spanish, French, and Portuguese
  • demonstrate the challenges of foreign-language and multilingual typesetting
  • present advanced adjustments and automation tools for editorial and typographic work
  • discuss the common problem of incomplete character sets in fonts and their impact on typesetting

The workshop is conceived as a hands-on session where participants test Typofix tools directly on their own materials. Participants should bring:

  • their own MacBook
  • an up-to-date version of macOS
  • Adobe InDesign installed in advance
  • their own text to work with during the workshop (for example, an article, book manuscript, or another work in progress)

The workshop is primarily intended for professionals working with text and typesetting:

  • typographers and typesetters;
  • graphic designers;
  • editors, writers, and text professionals.
