Shows Open at BCEC: Fifty-Fifty | Hanyi Fonts and Typography | Newcastle Bins | Type Text Roots | Type Down Under

Check out the variety of exhibitions throughout the ATypI spaces at the Brisbane Conference and Convention Centre. These inspiring shows feature award-winning typeface design, experimental typography and graphic design of posters, found typography on neighborhood trash bins in Newcastle, sumptuous typography using fonts from Hanyi foundry, and ambigrams and mid-century modern furnishings from the land Down Under.

Agnieszka Ziemiszewska

Agnieszka Ziemiszewska — a graphic designer, educator, and art curator. Her works have been presented all over the world at the International Poster Biennials, design events and at solo exhibitions. She has been awarded numerous distinctions. Agnieszka has been part of juries in national and international graphic design competitions. Crystian Cruz

Crystian Cruz is a senior graphic and typeface designer, educator, and speaker recognized for his extensive experience in typography and editorial design. He holds a PhD in Design from the University of Newcastle and a Master's in Typeface Design from Reading University. Crystian has worked as a creative director for leading magazines and newspapers in Brazil, including GQ, and has headed Typography at Africa, one of the most awarded advertising agencies in South America. He is also a part-time lecturer in bachelor and postgraduate design courses and has presented talks at over 60 design events globally.

Nada Abdallah

Professor University of the Arts Sharjah

Artist, Designer, Calligrapher, Typographer, Researcher, and Assistant Professor of Visual Communication at the University of the Arts Sharjah. Founder of the FiftyFifty Traveling Lettering Exhibition and the Bilarabic Design Festival, and President of ATypI (Association Typographique Internationale). She holds a BS in Visual Communication from the American University of Sharjah and an MFA from the Lebanese University. Received several awards in typography, design, and photography. She has served as a juror for various competitions, including the Type Directors Club (TDC), and her work has been exhibited in Lebanon, UAE, Greece, Korea, Egypt, KSA, the USA, and others. Her work and research focus on Arabic calligraphy, typography and prehistoric motif design.

Tania Hearn

Tania Hearn is an Australian type designer and lettering artist from the Gold Coast, Australia. She creates kinetic typography, SVG and SBIX colour fonts, and tactile ambigrams. Tania studied design at Griffith University, going on to complete her Honours degree in type design at the University of Newcastle. Tania has been featured in Typism’s annual books. She teaches lettering workshops to pass on her tips and techniques, and cherishes any spare time sketching by hand. Tania is hosting her Type Down Under exhibition at Southbank Brisbane during the ATypI conference and invites letter lovers and puzzle pundits to come along and enjoy her colourful collection of brain-benders that challenge you to look at words in new ways.
