Manuscripts & Visual Culture

As part of the ATypI Sharjah cultural program, participants are invited to visit the Sharjah Museum of Islamic Civilization to see rare manuscripts, Qur’anic folios, calligraphic works, historical documents, scientific instruments, coins, ceramics, and decorative arts up close. The visit offers a unique opportunity to explore the relationship between writing, scholarship, craft, and visual culture across centuries. For the ATypI community, it provides a rich context for understanding historical letterforms, manuscript traditions, ornament, and systems of knowledge, extending the conference beyond the lecture hall and into Sharjah’s wider cultural heritage.

Transportation will be provided from the Academy of Visual Arts, University of the Arts Sharjah, to the museum. Following the visit, transportation will continue to The NEST Hotel for conference participants.
