This presentation explores the potential of vintage Arabic lettering as an inspiration to generate bilingual display fonts. The project’s methodology highlights the layers of challenge through typographic transformations from Arabic into Latin as a base for cross-cultural influences. Examples shown in this session include student work from the College of Fine Arts and Design, University of Sharjah.

Designer and Assistant Professor of Visual Communication at the College of Fine Arts and Design, University of Sharjah. Founder of Bilarabic Design Festival and a Member of the Board of Directors of ATypI. Holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Visual Communication from the American University of Sharjah and an MFA from the Lebanese University. Won several awards in Design and Photography and sponsored numerous winning students’ projects. Work exhibited in Lebanon, UAE, Greece, Korea, Egypt, KSA, USA and other. Active since the 1990s, her work and research focus on Arabic Calligraphy and Typography, and Motif Design.
