Under the trend of design globalization, there is a growing demand from Chinese designers to find suitable Latin fonts that match Chinese fonts for applications. Meanwhile, with the expanding influence of Chinese in the world, more and more companies want to create multilingual fonts that match the style of their existing Chinese fonts to strengthen their brand communication in the world.

By analyzing the structure and design elements of traditional Chinese calligraphy characters, Wang Wen, the design director of Foundertype, will share how to refine the character features of Chinese fonts, and expand the multilingual supports on the basis of ensuring font style matching.

Workshop process

  1. Wang Wen analyzes and explains the structure and design elements of traditional Chinese calligraphy characters
  2. The workshop participants choose one of the two propositions provided by Wang Wen and complete the matching design of the Latin script on site.
  3. Wang Wen will comment on the participants’ work, and they will make adjustments according to the suggestions.

Final result

Workshop participants complete the design of matching Latin fonts according to the Chinese fonts provided by Wang Wen.

Wang Wen

Wen Wang graduated from the Beijing Institute Of Graphic Communication, and has worked in both the graphics and type design eras for 22 years. Wang is the vice design director of font design at FounderType, and is a Member of the Shenzhen Graphic Design Association (SGDA). Major works: Founder Bangshu Kai, Founder Bangshu Xing, Founder Qu Song, and Founder Yashi Hei.
