Aurelie Maron In this session, I will share how the craft of lettering rescued me from a job I disliked and helped me build a thriving community where my work is valued. It all began with a simple question: “How can I do what I love and achieve professional fulfilment?”
This question led me on a journey of self-discovery, ultimately leading me to explore the art of lettering and delve into typeface design. Reflecting on the past four years, I will share my decisions and the unique factors contributing to my success. I will discuss how I leveraged the power of the internet to showcase my lettering work, which ultimately became a sustainable source of income. From selling digital products to teaching students, I have found passion and self-sufficiency in fonts and lettering.
This session will also delve into the challenges I encountered along the way, including the graphic design job that eventually led me to specialise in lettering. By focusing on a specific niche, I was able to stand out from other designers and create a unique identity for myself as a creative practitioner. I will also share my transition from drawing on the iPad to developing my typefaces, adding another layer of creative output to my offerings.
I aim to inspire and empower fellow designers, typographers, and type enthusiasts through my story. By sharing my lessons and insights from my personal experience, I hope to ignite a sense of possibility and encourage others to explore their creative passions.
