The Centre national des arts plastiques is a public institution of the French Ministry of Culture that promotes visual art which includes for almost three decades graphic design and typography, especially with its yearly publication Graphisme en France.
The talk will focus on the projects promoting typography and type design : purchase of typefaces for the state collection (drawings, files, specimen, etc.) and commissions of typefaces : Infini by Sandrine Nugue in 2015 and Faune by Alice Savoie in 2017. It will emphasize the processes (call for application, selection, jury, publication) and the questions induced for preservation, research, curation and promotion of typography.
Véronique Marrier is head of the graphic design department at the Centre national des arts plastiques (Cnap).
