Speaker Sandra Garcia
Sandra García is a Colombian graphic and typeface designer, born in Medellín and based in Mexico City. She holds a degree in Graphic Design, a Master’s in Typographic Design, and a Certificate in Type Design from The Cooper Union. In 2016, she collaborated on Woniek, a typeface for the Wounaan language, which sparked her interest in typography for underrepresented scripts.
As co-founder of Tipastype, Sandra develops projects centered on legibility, typefaces for early readers, and Indigenous languages, while also co-authoring Elementype: A Practical Guide to Typographic Use. Her work has been showcased at ATypI Tokyo, Typographics, and What Design Can Do. In 2022, she joined the HMCT in Pasadena as a resident, where she co-developed Achtli: A Typeface for Early Readers.
Sandra also teaches Typography and Editorial Design at UNAM, and her typefaces are published internationally through Latinotype and I Love Typography.
