Speaker Michael McDermott
Michael McDermott is an American educator, designer, occasional printer, climber, and a relatively new parent to identical twin boys. His work explores the relationship between physical objects and their digital counterparts, particularly how objects are translated between these two spaces. He is also fascinated by the remnants people leave behind, currently working on a project that involves recovering data from used cell phones purchased on eBay. Michael enjoys stepping away from the screen to work with his hands, especially letterpress printing. He holds a BArch from Virginia Tech and an MFA from the Rhode Island School of Design. Michael is currently an assistant professor in the School of Art at George Mason University, just outside Washington, D.C.
