Speaker Julie Janet
Julie Janet fell in love with typeface design in 2005 and has been researching the secret life of lettershapes ever since. After studies in Sociology and Typeface Design, she’s found in visual epistemology an endless source of awe and inspiration to decode and encode typographic matter.
Her PhD thesis “Typefaces beyond words—a framework for the multimodal analysis of lettershapes as a typographetic resource”, completed in 2023 at Central Saint Martins (UAL), is being reshaped to reach a wider audience. It explores the agency of typefaces to convey information beyond the semantic value of the words they carry.
