Speaker Jean-François Porchez
Jean-François Porchez is the French counter part of a new trend in the font industry.
After centuries of type history, Renaissance Man is returning: new type designers such as Porchez create and sell their own type faces themselves like Claude Garamond and his colleagues. Via his Porchez Typofonderie, created after his first custom font for the French newspaper Le Monde in 1994, Porchez will try to demonstrate to you how the typographic colour of Paris has changed in 8 years.
After having been trained at the Atelier Nationale de Recherche Typographique (anrtl Jean-François Porchez (born 1964 I worked as a typeface designer and consultant at Dragon Rouge. By 1994 he had created the new type face for Le Mende newspapers.
Today, through Porchez Typofonderie, he designs custom typefaces for companies such as RATP (public transport in Paris I, Automobiles Peugeot, Costa Crocieres, France Telecom, and distributes internationally his retail typefaces via his website www.typofonderie.com. He reg ularly speaks at conferences and teaches type design at Ecole nationale superieure des art decoratifs (ensad) in Paris. He was a jury mem ber of the 3rd Linotype Type Design Contest. He is the Vice-President of ATypl.
Jean-François Porchez was awarded the Prix Charles Peignot (19981 in recognition of his outstanding contributions in the areas of type design and typography and to the typographic community. FF Angie (1990) and Apolline (19931 were prize-winning entries at the international Morisawa typeface competitions. Costa received a Certificate of Excellence in Type Design at
the TDC2 2000.
