Participants will be introduced to:

Traditional Handmaking Using Ezi Carve Printmaking Blocks
From carving tools to inks, a comprehensive list of materials will be introduced, ensuring participants understand their specific applications and advantages.

Technique Demonstrations
After a live demonstration of carving techniques, participants will experience the soft, smooth, and easy-to-carve nature of the material, enabling intricate designs using typographic elements.

Craft methods

Advancing Typography with Geli Plate Printing
A comprehensive introduction to geli plate printing, explaining its unique nature and why it’s an exciting method for typographers.

Technique Demonstrations
Live demonstrations will highlight how geli plate printing can elevate monoprinting, emphasising its ability to create unique, layered textures and designs. Participants will be encouraged to experiment with type and geli plate, exploring how the medium can add depth, texture, and vibrancy to traditional typographic designs.

Laser Printing and Woodblock
The highlight will be a session demonstrating the combination of digitally designed type pieces and laser printing. Through a practical exercise, participants will discover the seamless integration of the two, witnessing firsthand the transformation of a digital design and the precision and versatility of laser printing in typography. In an age where digital often overshadows traditional, it is crucial to remember and respect the roots of typography and design.

Attendees should bring:

  • A laptop with computer software (Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator) to play with the analogue to digital format
  • A digital camera (phone)
