Look at type differently. Create your own letter and stitch it. Hand make a patch, badge, bookmark, or stitch your own clothing—if you dare!

Skill level is intermediate (a handbook will be provided). Following a short presentation of embroidery projects in which this process was investigated, participants will be able to explore/expand their type skills to create their own small artwork.

Beginning with planning the piece, participants will design their own letter (or use one previously developed), with guidance we will discuss the suitability of the final designed letter to the embroidery process and adapt the letterforms if required.

Participants will create a stitch sampler to learn a few basic stitch types, then will transfer their design onto a piece of cloth and embroider their own letter to take home.

This project is a collaborative effort of two graphic design educators, Alaina Jones and Ola Pak, who share their passion for typography and artisanship.

Attendees should bring:
