When it comes to font technology, colorfonts are the new kid on the block. They allow digital fonts to display color, shade, texture, and even images.

This workshop introduces participants to the creation of colorfonts through an urban lens. After an initial brief, participants will spend 30 minutes outside photographing anything they can find that looks like a letter. Focusing on abstract shapes, they will be tasked with finding letterforms in the everyday urban environment.

Back inside, on their computers, participants will be guided through a staged process of iteration and review to produce a colourfont based on their images.

Attendees should bring:

  • Laptop computer with Glyphs software and Photoshop installed.
  • Camera (a phone is sufficient).
  • Any cabling necessary to connect your phone to your laptop for the transfer of images.
