ATypI 2026 Call for Proposals

Call for Proposals 2026

ATypI invites proposals for talks, workshops, panels, and experimental presentations for its two 2026 conferences.

Stanford, California — Homescreen
Sharjah, UAE — Between

For 2026, ATypI not only returns to the Bay Area for the first time in over four decades, but also steps into the Middle East for the first time ever. Together, these two conferences form a unique dialogue: a reflection on typography’s deep histories and a reimagination of its shifting futures. We welcome submissions from across disciplines, cultures, scripts, and practices—whether historical, experimental, educational, technological, or deeply personal.

You may submit proposals for one or both conferences through the unified form below.

ATypI 2026 – Stanford

Theme: Homescreen: Design for Belonging
Dates: May 27–30, 2026
Location: Stanford University, California, USA

Homescreen
Design for Belonging

Homescreen, celebrates a historic homecoming for the global type community—to the San Francisco Bay Area, and to Stanford University, site of the landmark 1983 Working Seminar that redefined the future of digital typography. At the same time, Homescreen references the long and unfinished journey of creating a truly global and grounded digital age, an age marked at present by velocity and disorientation, possibility and uncertainty, where homescreens feel like “home” for only a remarkably small number of the world’slanguage communities. Four decades after the visionary Stanford event, Homescreen honors this legacy while confronting the unfinished work of designing a digital age where we all belong.

ATypI 2026 – Sharjah

Theme: Between: Tradition | Transition | Transformation
Dates: October 28–31, 2026

Between
Tradition Transition Transformation

The conference explores typography as it moves across scripts, disciplines, tools, cultures, and times. This theme invites inquiry into what typography becomes when it exists not within boundaries, but in the spaces that connect them. Set in Sharjah, a city rooted in deep tradition and contemporary experimentation, this conference will foreground the in-between: typography as a relational, translational, and transformative practice.
