Elections
There are two candidates for election to the Board.
John Berry
John Berry is a retiring Board member who is presenting himself for re-election. His statement is:
Having served two terms already on the ATypI board, beginning at the Leipzig conference in 2000, I am standing once again because I think I can bring a certain amount of perspective and experience to the job. ATypI has gone through a period of upheaval and change in the last six years; the organization should be able to build on its past successes, learn from its past mistakes, and continually re-invent itself based on the changing nature of the worldwide typographic community.
I first became involved with ATypI in 1990, at Type90 in Oxford, which set a standard for ATypI’s openness to the expanding world of digital fonts and electronic publishing. I am interested not only in the design and manufacture of typefaces (past present, and future) but in the wider subject of typography – how type is used. I’ll continue to encourage building bridges, reaching across borders, opening up new areas of interest, and encouraging excellence in typographic communication.
Petra Weitz
Petra Weitz has a university degree in English and History. Fate would have it that she started working for the Berlin office of Sedley Place Design where she first met Erik and Joan Spiekermann. She joined them when they founded FontShop Germany in 1989. Since 1994, Petra has been working for FSI FontShop International - home of the FontFont typeface library and publisher of the FontBook. She is the CEO of FSI in Germany and USA.
I want to support ATypI and further its cause as it provides an essential forum for everyone involved or interested in type and typography, with particular emphasis on helping to educate and inspire the next generations. On my wish list: a focus group/committee initiated by ATypI to represent the interests and rights of type designers and type foundries "with one voice" in a dialogue with manufacturers of application software and operating systems.
