Type on the web

Custom Type

As Typofonderie.com was more and more focused into retail fonts, I have launched a dedicated website. Custom-Type.com website propose several examples of bespoke typefaces with various applications of the corporate fonts in real context. A bespoke font family can meet specific requirements that standard market fonts and typefaces cannot. Some examples: http://www.custom-type.com/fonts/mencken http://www.custom-type.com/fonts/retiro http://www.custom-type.com/fonts/vuitton-persona http://www.custom-type.com/fonts/parisine & http://www.custom-type.com/lettering/ (Posted by Jean-Francois Porchez)

TypeTogether, New Font Releases

We are happy to announce the extension of two of our font families and the release of a new typeface. Karmina Sans, which follows the steps of its successful award winner cousin, Karmina Serif, shares the same technical excellence and it achieves similar stylistic features, but the new sans serif version proposes a much more versatile tool for editorial designers. Karmina Sans has six different weights with their matching italics, from light to heavy, serving continuous text to headlines to small text. Bree, a sans serif with reminiscences of handwriting that has been featured in the most important best selling lists of distributors for 2008, has been upgraded with a set of five oblique fonts, making it 10 weights in total. Ronnia got eight additional fonts which makes a total of 28, now featuring thin and semibold weights. Ronnia is a humanistic sans serif that has been chosen by some of the most prestigious designers and publications, including The Irish Times (Ireland) and The Big Issue (England). 1. Festival črk / 1. Festival of Letters, Ljubljana

The Festival aims to awaken and promote letterpress printing technique and its accompanying body of knowledge by organizing printing demonstrations, workshops (paper making, calligraphy, book binding, printing, stone carving), workshops for children, screening of a documentary film Typeface, guided tours, lectures on type design and typography, and some "summer fun" stuff related to type (such as "Rolledover Poster competition", public printing with construction roller in the centre of Ljubljana).

Expert classes on type design

From the end of September 2010, expert classes on type design will be provided by the Plantin Society in Antwerp. The secrets behind the contemporary formal typographic representations of the Latin script, i.e. the underlying harmonic, proportional and rhythmic structures of the capital, roman and italic letters and the related typographic conventions and rules, will be analyzed and dissected. Available software for font production for Mac OS, Windows and Linux, like (but not limited to) FontLab Studio, FontForge and DTL FontMaster, will be reviewed and first steps towards designing type will be made.
